The White Stag by Qarrezel The White Stag by Qarrezel
A white stag costume which I made for someone's short film (and for myself, since I get to keep it).

It does have the capacity for a moving jaw, but the mechanism broke sometime in the wee hours (I had to stay up all night in order to finish this for filming), so it's temporarily a static jaw.

Wow, I can't believe I got a DD on this! Thanks so much, everyone!

Since there's been more attention, I know a lot more people are wondering about the student film in which this costume was featured. I'm sorry to say that the creator of that film has been experiencing some very serious medical issues, and may not ever get a chance to complete the film.
I'll try to make it up to you guys when I get a video camera ;)

The White Stag by ~Qarrezel. "One example of wonderful work coming from a most talented costume creator. It reads on the artist's comments that it was created for a short film and looking at this costume it makes me remember good old fantasy movies where the magic was literally on the hands of the film creators. I would like to see that short film, in the meantime it is nice to enjoy Qarrezel's gallery. I hope you agree and visit her gallery, you won't regret it." Amazing!

I have to make hooves, Qarrezel, for my 15 year old daughter (a deer costume). HOW do you do it? Can you nudge me towards a good site, or anything? Thank-you! The stag is stunning.[link]

This is a pretty helpful tutorial: [link]

I use cast replica hooves for the hooves on my costumes, but you can use just about anything from sheet plastic to stuffed vinyl if you don't have access to fiberglass or resin casting.

On another note, A friend who went to FC told me that Johara was easily the most popular suit there!

thats definitly one of the bestest suits I've seen in quite a while.
Absolutely adore it, not in the excellence rendering but also in the overall convincing effect of the whole. Maybe because I have a soft spot for stags ;)

is there any chance we could see this live sometime? ever considered coming to Eurofurence? I saw one of your suits life there, would be awesome having you there too :)

Thanks! I do want to come to Eurofurence sometime, as I've heard good things about it. Sadly there is no way I can afford the $900 plane ticket, much less the hotel stay, much less food in Germany with the exchange rate the way it is. Maybe someday when I am ridiculously wealthy, haha.

This is..wow. I'm at a loss for words. This is one of the most beautiful stag costumes I have EVER seen. Your attention to detail is amazing. I would love to see something like this in a Hollywood movie.

if you dont mind me asking, what is resin?

Thanks!

Resin can really be a number of things, but very basically it's two liquid compounds that, when mixed, turn into a hard material. Resins can come in epoxy, polyester, polyurethane, and a lot of other nice poisonous stuff, hehe. I use polyurethane.

You're quite welcome,
My friend Eddie and I want to start making masks,
Is paper mache any good for that sort of thing?
I've made a unicorn mask, and I was very proud of it, but I've done nothing of the sort since then...

Paper mache is great for masks, and done well, it can really be very durable. I highly recommend paper mache.

Amazing. Simply AMAZING. I don't know why, but I've always had an aversion to cartoony-looking fursuits, so naturally I'm drawn to this one!:) It's GORGEOUS and I love how well fitted it is, and how you added (not sure what that thing your wearing is called but thumbs-up! d><b) It DEFINITELY deserves the DD! :D

I was just surprised. I don't know. It kinda reminded me of several things. A scene from 300, and a scene from a version of the King Arthur tale (made for cable tv I think "Mists of the Avalon") because of the stag head. I dunno. Just first reaction was "Omg". It is neat though. I did not intent to offend, jsyk. (though you already stated you weren't offended). It's good work though. I love the mask and hooves....I kinda want the belt.
